In our short but ambitious video game development career, we’ve had a lot of beautiful moments and opportunities, and that list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the Central and Eastern European Game Awards event which was hosted in Poznan, Poland back in 2019.
We, as a small indie studio, were invited at the event, and the reason for this was our very first video game Wounded being nominated for the award in the Hidden Gem category. We have to admit, when we first heard the news, we didn’t know how to react because at the time being this was much unexpected for us. After a week of planning and arranging, we packed up and went on one of the larger business-trips in our entire career. Needless to say, it was an unforgettable experience.
The crowd at the event was amazing, and although we didn’t end up winning the award, we surely made a lot of connections which is probably even more valuable for such a small indie studio like Workbench. One of the most exciting moments of our career was sharing a table with the world-famous studio CD Projekt Red, people in which we find a lot of inspiration ever since the day we started making games. The event was full of successful dev-teams and we competed in a category with some of the best studios from across the world.
However, nothing beats the fact that we as a small indie studio managed to represent our country for the first time on such a prestigious event. They even had our flag put up on the main tower where the after-party event was hosted on the final day, just because of us! It was an unimaginable feeling and we’re very proud to be the first team of young and enthusiastic video game developers from our country who managed to achieve something like this.
We have a strong belief in our ability to accomplish our only goal, which is to raise awareness for the video-game industry in Macedonia and represent our country on many more similar events. We’ll give our best effort to make sure that we maintain our reputation as being the best dev-team in Macedonia, so definitely expect a lot from us soon.
Knowing the persistent and dedicated personality of our members, we’re more than confident that one day we’ll return home with the shiny CEEGA trophy, and it’s just a matter of time before that happens. Until then, you’re more than welcome to take a look at the following photos from the event. If you ever have the chance to visit this the video game awards in Poznan, Poland, we wholeheartedly advise you to do so.
